Home Care
Your personal home care is vital to the success of maintaining healthy teeth and gums throughout your lifetime. Our dental professionals and our patients are partners in achieving this goal. We will recommend a personalized hygiene regimen utilizing a number of hygiene aids and tools to help you.
Tooth Brushing
We recommend the following technique, performed at least twice daily with a soft bristle toothbrush: Place the brush at a 45 degree angle to the gums and gently brush using small, circular motions. Brush all surfaces of each tooth. You may find it easiest to place the toothbrush vertically to clean the inside of the front teeth. Electric toothbrushes, such as the Oral B, or ProDentec, are also recommended. They are easy to use and remove plaque very effectively.
Flossing
Floss at least once per day to minimize buildup of plaque and bacteria between teeth, where disease usually begins. Gather 12-16 inches (30-40cm) of dental floss and wrap it around your middle fingers, leaving about 2 inches (5cm) of floss stretched between both hands. Using your thumbs and forefingers to guide the floss, gently insert the floss between teeth using a gentle sawing motion. Curve the floss into a "C" shape around each tooth. Gently move the floss up and down, cleaning the side of each tooth from the tip of the tooth to just under the gum tissue.
